About us
You might be surprised - this project was created in the middle of the deep Amazon rainforest. With the group, part of which is involved in Tradition in Images, we documented the Huoarani Indian tribe.
Somewhere among all the trampling of wild plants, Václav Šilha had the idea that he could focus not only on the natives from the other side of the globe, but also on our own. From Karlovy Vary, Podještědí, the upper Chodsko, Tábor or Doudlebsko Region.
He was inspired by his favourite American photographer, Edward S. Curtis, who began photographing the disappearing North American Indian tribes at the end of the 19th century. Simple portraits, natural facial expressions and an incredible depth of vision - this is what he wanted to bring to the photographs of the local natives.
The Tradition in the Images is deliberately concentrated mainly on the territory of Bohemia. As far as folk culture is concerned, they are a kind of ashes in comparison with Moravia. Local costumes and customs are often forgotten, although they are very charming, full of stories and messages.
OSA, z.s., was enthusiastic about the idea and became not only the publisher of the book, but has also enriched the whole project with interactivity in the form of songs and dances, which will undoubtedly enhance the overall experience.
